The Chris Dudley Foundation was founded in 1994 as a means to ensure that children can pursue their dreams. Chris was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 16; determined to play basketball, he was disciplined about his health and goals to not let diabetes stop him from his dreams. He is a Yale University alumnus and a 16-year NBA veteran. Chris has been widely recognized in many articles about his diabetes, he has received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, USA Today’s Most Caring Athlete Award and most recently the Non-Partisan Award personally presented by President Bush among other honors.
Chris’ desire is for every child to succeed regardless of their economic, education or health liabilities. Throughout his career he has been a role model for many people in his community and across the country. Chris looks forward to continuing his energies toward diabetes education, awareness and his basketball camp, which is the only one of its kind in the world. The Chris Dudley Basketball Camp for kids with type 1 diabetes has represented kids from across the country with the ability to understand how to play an intensive sport while controlling their diabetes. Camp is a place where boys and girls between the ages 10-17 can come and be “normal” to feel like everyone else. 2005 commemorated 10 years.
The Dudley Foundation has teamed up with many organizations in finding a cure; his giving back has allowed kids to go to college from I Have A Dream Foundation, The High Five America Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for many chapters, American Diabetes Association (ADA), Gales Creek Camp – building a bridge to continue camp, Diabetes Research Institute (DRI), Yale University Basketball Program, Celebrity Spelling Bee – for school supplies, Santa Claus to kids at the Salvation Army to have a memorable Christmas and sponsoring many kids to fulfill their dreams.
Chris Dudley and The Dudley Foundation will continue their efforts in empowering and encouraging kids through education, awareness and advocacy. |
